The Safa Tempo pioneered electric public transport in South Asia since 1993, expanding to 600 vehicles by 2000 with 30 charging stations by 1998. It demonstrated early success in sustainable urban mobility for developing cities like Kathmandu. The Safa Tempo was developed in 1993 as a prototype for electric three wheelers. It as later adopted by NEVI ( Nepal Electric Vehicle Industry Research and Innobation) leading to its growth and use in Kathmandu. The system expanded to include 700 Safa Tempos and 30 charging stations. This innovation played a significant role in Kathmandu's transition to electric transportation, aiming to reduce pollution and reliance on fossil fuelss.
